While we don't assign a lot of homework, there are many things students can be doing to help themselves with school, at home. Students are expected to read for a minimum of 30 minutes every night, and to dialogue with an adult about that reading. The student should write a brief dialogue summary in their planner and then the adult should sign the planner AFTER reading the summary (initials are fine, but a signature sets a good example!) Each day I check every student's planner for:
- Reading
- Dialgoue
- Signature
Please check your student's planner each evening for their homework plan. Each student writes their own plan and they are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning. For example, if they know they need to work on multiplication math facts they should have that in their plan. If they are behind schedule with a visual aid for a writing presentation, they should have that in their plan, as well. Homework needs are unique to each student and the district's homework policy may offer guidance to some families.
If homework is not brought to class for any reason, the student will be able to complete the homework during recesses. Most students feel that this is a terrible imposition (and it certainly is on me!) so, parents may want to help their students be successful with homework plans at home.

If an assignment is more than three days late, the student calls home (or work) from school to explain what is happening. If three assignments in a row are late, the student calls home, as well. Meanwhile, the student will be using recess time to complete late work.
